Overview
Guyana is the sole English-speaking nation on the continent of South America. Due to strong political, economic and historical ties with the islands of the English-speaking Caribbean, Guyana is considered a Caribbean nation.  Guyana’s terrain is quite vast and comprises lush vegetation and wildlife and is said to have the highest level of biodiversity in the world. Various modes of transportation are utilised such as private car, boat and private/public service taxis or small planes. This is due to the remoteness of some towns located in the interior; however, most persons live close to coastal areas.  Categorised as a low-income developing country, Guyana’s economy is driven primarily by agriculture and mining. It is anticipated that the country’s socio-economic landscape is expected evolve due to recent oil and gas exploration.
